Well… not the hottest start to the season. If you’d like to provide suggestions to improve my picks, feel free to reach out.
Last week, I told you what I thought would happen in week 0. There were a few things I got right. But for the most part, I was wrong. For those still getting to know me, I’m a straight shooter. This makes me an exceptional loser. Quite honestly… I’m probably the best loser on the planet. I handle losing so well you might start wanting me to win because you’re getting so jealous of how well I handle losing.
Here’s my recap of my week 0 picks:
Nebraska -6.5 – L
A tale of two halves. Nebraska looked good in the first half. I even successfully convinced myself Illinois’ second quarter touchdown drive didn’t count thanks to the penalties. Then there was the the sack-fumble-scoop-and-score with less then a minute left. After the Illini scored to start the second half, all hope of going 2-0 on this game was gone.
Nebraska v. Illinois U55 – W
Sweaty game for the under. I felt like the sharpest tool in the Shed when the first quarter ended 2-0. Then I started imagining going 0-5 to start the year, as I watch Illinois spank Nebraska during a 28-0 run. Luckily for my pride, Illinois quit scoring and Nebraska was eating up clock without scoring.
Hawaii v. UCLA O68 – L
For the standard sportsbook bettor (ATS & O/U), the best pick for this game was UCLA laying the 18. UCLA was in total control of this game. Scoring on big plays, special teams, even pounding the rock inside the 5 yard line. Hawaii, on the other hand, never really threatened. The QB was constantly under pressure and the offense only strung together a few good drives. One of the best drives of the game ended with zero points. This game was never going over.
So essentially, I was dead wrong about Hawaii out performing expectations.
New Mexico State +10 – L
The only way I could have been more wrong about this game was if I would have doubled up on the Aggies with the money line. “Technically” I did NOT watch this game. It was not available in my market…. But I really don’t need to explain how wrong I was. The score does a fine job: 30-3.
UTEP v. New Mexico State U56.5 – L
It only took four picks to get to my easy winner. Again, I did NOT watch this game so I can’t really break this game down. If I did “watch” this game, I’d tell you New Mexico State was hot garbage and it’s not like UTEP was putting up 54. No need to stay up, go to sleep.
The guys in the Shed have a phrase we like to use for times like this…
“Minor setback to a major comeback”
-Guy #1 (reigning champ) (65% ATS in 2020) (not a big deal)
